About this coloring page

Jesus stands before the entrance of a tomb carved into a rock face, His arm raised and His voice clearly calling out. From the dark opening of the tomb, a figure wrapped in burial cloths is emerging — Lazarus, walking out. A crowd stands behind Jesus, many with hands raised to their mouths in shock. Martha and Mary kneel nearby, weeping and watching. The large stone that sealed the tomb lies to one side. The contrast between the dark tomb opening and the bright light outside, the varied crowd reactions, and the dramatic posture of Lazarus emerging give kids a page full of visual energy.

Suggested Scripture: John 11:43–44 (NIV) — Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen.

The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Teaching ideas for parents and teachers

  • Before coloring, ask kids what they think the crowd was feeling in that moment. Most will say "shocked" or "scared." Then ask what they think Lazarus felt.
  • For ages 5–7: keep it simple. Lazarus was dead, and Jesus called his name and he came back. Jesus is stronger than death.
  • For Sunday school: focus on John 11:35 — "Jesus wept." Even knowing He was about to raise Lazarus, Jesus cried with the people who were grieving. Ask, "What does that tell us about how God feels when we're sad?"
  • For family devotion: read John 11:17–44. Ask, "What's one thing in our family that feels 'dead' right now — and that we could ask Jesus to call back to life?"

Print and activity tips

  • Color the inside of the tomb in deep grays and blacks — the darkness makes Lazarus' emergence more dramatic.
  • Color Lazarus' burial cloths in off-white or pale gray; they should look real, not ghostly.
  • Use varied expressions on the crowd's faces — shock, joy, fear, tears — to capture the full weight of the moment.

Discussion questions

  • Jesus wept before raising Lazarus, even though He knew what He was about to do. Why do you think He cried?
  • Lazarus came out still wrapped in burial cloths. Jesus told the crowd to unwrap him. What does it mean that we sometimes need each other's help to be fully free?
  • Have you ever prayed for something that seemed impossible? What happened?
  • This miracle convinced many people to believe in Jesus — and also convinced others to plot against Him. Why do you think the same miracle had two opposite effects?
  • What's one thing in your life that you need Jesus to "call out" of darkness?
