Create My Child's PageAbout this coloring page
A twelve-year-old Jesus sits among the teachers of the law in the temple courtyard. He's gesturing with one hand as if explaining something, and the teachers are leaning in, listening intently. Some look surprised, others look thoughtful. Scrolls and tablets are scattered on the ground. Mary and Joseph stand at the edge of the group, looking relieved to have found Him. This page captures the only story we have about Jesus between His birth and adulthood. The temple architecture, the scrolls, the varied faces of the teachers, and the parents' expressions give kids rich detail work while young Jesus stays central.
Suggested Scripture: Luke 2:52 (NIV) — And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Create a personalized Jesus coloring pageTeaching ideas for parents and teachers
- Before coloring, ask kids what they think twelve-year-old Jesus was like. Most will say "smart" or "kind." Then ask what it means that He "grew in wisdom."
- For ages 5–7: keep it simple. Jesus was a kid once. He went to the temple and asked questions and learned. He was like you.
- For Sunday school: focus on the four areas of growth — wisdom (mind), stature (body), favor with God (spirit), favor with man (relationships). Ask, "Which area are you growing in most right now?"
- For family devotion: read Luke 2:41–52. Ask, "What's one way our family can help each other grow in wisdom this year?"
Print and activity tips
- Color the temple columns and floor in warm stone tones; they should feel old and important.
- Give the teachers varied robe colors — deep reds, blues, purples — to suggest their different roles.
- Keep young Jesus in slightly lighter tones than the teachers; He should stand out without being flashy.
Discussion questions
- This is the only story we have about Jesus as a kid. Why do you think the Bible includes this one?
- The teachers were surprised at how much Jesus knew. Where do you think He learned all that?
- Mary and Joseph were worried when they couldn't find Jesus. Have you ever been lost or couldn't find someone you love?
- Jesus said He had to be in His Father's house. What does that tell you about what was most important to Him?
- The verse says Jesus grew in favor with God and man. What does it mean to grow in favor with people?
