Create My Child's PageAbout this coloring page
This page shows a cross-section view of the whale with Jonah curled inside its belly, surrounded by water, seaweed, and small fish that got swept in with him. He's not panicking — he's sitting with his head down, hands folded, in the middle of a long prayer. Outside the whale, the ocean is full of waves and one fishing boat in the corner that Jonah was thrown from. The cutaway design makes this one of the more visually creative pages in the set, with two distinct zones to color: the dim, quiet inside and the active sea outside.
Suggested Scripture: Jonah 2:1 (NIV) — From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.
The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Create a personalized Jesus coloring pageTeaching ideas for parents and teachers
- Before coloring, ask kids what they would do if they were stuck inside a whale for three days. Most will say "scream" or "try to get out" — then point out that Jonah prayed instead.
- For ages 5–7: keep it simple. Focus on the fact that God knew exactly where Jonah was, even underwater, in the dark, inside a fish.
- For Sunday school: this is a good page for talking about running away from God. Ask, "What was Jonah running from? And what was he running toward?"
- For family devotion: read Jonah 2 (his prayer from inside the fish) together. Then ask, "Have you ever needed to apologize to God? What did that feel like?"
Print and activity tips
- Color the inside of the whale in cooler blues and greens to make it feel like underwater air, then color the outside ocean in a different shade so the two zones don't blend.
- Glue tiny pieces of green tissue paper as seaweed inside the whale's belly for texture.
- Cut a flap on the whale's mouth so it opens and closes — kids love the idea of "letting Jonah out" themselves at the end.
Discussion questions
- Jonah was a prophet. Why do you think someone who knew God so well still tried to run from Him?
- What do you think Jonah was praying about during those three days?
- Have you ever felt like you were in a "dark place" — not literally, but inside? What helped you come out?
- The whale didn't decide to swallow Jonah on its own. The Bible says God sent it. How does that change how you see the whale?
- If God forgave Jonah after he ran away, what does that tell us about how God treats people who mess up?
