About this coloring page

The prophet Elijah sits beside a small stream in a quiet wilderness, looking up at two ravens flying toward him. Each raven carries a piece of bread in its beak. The ground around Elijah is dry — there's been no rain — but the brook still has water, and Elijah's posture is one of waiting, not worry. A few rocks, scattered grasses, and a distant hill make up the rest of the scene. This is a quieter page than most in the biblestories set, which makes it good for kids who get overwhelmed by busy art. The ravens are the most detailed elements, with feathers and bread that beg for careful coloring.

Suggested Scripture: 1 Kings 17:6 (NIV) — The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Teaching ideas for parents and teachers

  • Before coloring, ask kids what kind of bird usually brings food in stories. Most will say doves or pigeons. Then ask, "Why do you think God used ravens, which were considered unclean birds?" Sit with that question.
  • For ages 5–7: focus on the picture itself. God knew exactly where Elijah was and what he needed, and He sent it.
  • For Sunday school: this story happens during a famine that Elijah himself prophesied. Use this page to talk about God providing for His people even when they're the ones delivering hard messages.
  • For family devotion: read 1 Kings 17. Ask, "What's a 'raven' God has used to provide for our family — something unexpected, maybe even unlikely, that turned out to be exactly what we needed?"

Print and activity tips

  • Color the ravens in deep blacks and dark blues, then leave a tiny spot of white in each eye — it brings them to life immediately.
  • Use very pale colors for the dry ground to suggest the famine without making the scene look dead.
  • Add a few extra feathers in the air using a pen, as if the ravens have been flying back and forth for a while.

Discussion questions

  • Ravens were considered unclean birds in Israel. Why do you think God chose them to feed His prophet?
  • What's the most unexpected way someone has helped you when you really needed it?
  • Elijah had to keep showing up to that brook every day to get fed. What does that tell us about how God provides?
  • Eventually the brook dried up and Elijah had to move on. Why do you think God let that happen?
  • If you were Elijah, would you have been comforted by the ravens — or a little weirded out at first?
