Create My Child's PageAbout this coloring page
Two houses stand side by side on this page. On the left, a sturdy house sits on solid rock, its walls straight and its roof intact even as a storm rages around it. On the right, a house has partially collapsed — its walls are cracked, its roof is caving in — because it was built on sand. Storm clouds fill the sky, rain pours down, and a river is rising in the background. Two builders are visible: one standing steady in his doorway, one looking at the damage in dismay. The contrast between the two houses, the storm details, and the builders' expressions give kids a clear, visual lesson.
Suggested Scripture: Matthew 7:24 (NIV) — Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Create a personalized Jesus coloring pageTeaching ideas for parents and teachers
- Before coloring, ask kids what the difference was between the two houses. Most will say "one was on rock and one was on sand." Then ask what the rock and sand represent.
- For ages 5–7: keep it simple. One man built his house on rock. One built on sand. When the storm came, only one house stood. Jesus says we build on rock by listening to Him and doing what He says.
- For Sunday school: focus on the phrase "puts them into practice." Hearing isn't enough. Ask, "What's one thing Jesus said that you know but haven't fully put into practice yet?"
- For family devotion: read Matthew 7:24–27. Ask, "What's one thing our family is building right now — and what foundation is it on?"
Print and activity tips
- Color the left house (on rock) in warm, stable tones — it should look solid and safe.
- Color the right house (on sand) in slightly cooler, unstable tones — cracks, gaps, a caving roof.
- Use deep grays and blues for the storm; the weather should feel the same for both houses.
Discussion questions
- Both houses faced the same storm. What made the difference?
- What does it mean to build your life on "rock"? What does that look like day to day?
- Have you ever built something that fell apart? What did you learn?
- The foolish builder's house fell with "a great crash." What's one thing in your life that would fall apart without God's foundation?
- What's one habit or practice that helps you build on solid ground?
