Mary Magdalene kneels in a small garden near the empty tomb, her hands reaching out toward Jesus, who stands a few steps away. Jesus has just spoken her name. The sun has risen behind Him, and the garden is full of soft morning details — flowers blooming, dew on the leaves, a low stone wall in the background. Mary's face shows the moment of recognition, the second she realizes who is speaking to her. There's no one else in the scene. The garden setting and the early-morning light make this one of the most peaceful pages in the Easter set, even though it captures one of the most emotional reunions in the Bible.
Suggested Scripture: John 20:16 (NIV) — Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means "Teacher").
The page is designed as a printable Christian coloring activity that can support a short Bible conversation, a family devotional moment, or a calm classroom activity.

Create a personalized Jesus coloring pageTeaching ideas for parents and teachers
- Before coloring, tell kids that Mary thought Jesus was the gardener at first. Ask, "Why do you think she didn't recognize Him right away?"
- For ages 5–7: focus on the moment Jesus says her name. Sometimes when someone we love says our name, we know exactly who it is. That's how Mary knew.
- For Sunday school: this is the first resurrection appearance, and it was to a woman — at a time when women weren't even allowed to give legal testimony. Ask, "Why do you think Jesus appeared to Mary first?"
- For family devotion: read John 20:11–18. Ask, "When has someone calling your name made you feel known?"
Print and activity tips
- Color the garden in soft greens and pinks — this is springtime, and the world is coming back to life around them.
- Keep Jesus' clothing simple and light; the focus should be on His face and Mary's recognition.
- Add small details like a butterfly or a sparrow in the corner of the garden to reinforce the theme of new life.
Discussion questions
- Mary was crying when Jesus appeared. What does that tell us about how she felt?
- Why do you think Mary didn't recognize Jesus until He said her name?
- Has someone ever known you so well that they could see something about you no one else could?
- Jesus said, "Don't hold on to me." Why do you think He said that?
- If Jesus called your name out loud right now, what do you think you would feel?
